Fundación Sanitas
Over 20 years ago, Fundación Sanitas was created with the firm commitment to promote health and social transformation through research, the inclusion of people with disabilities and the recognition of medical teaching. Inclusive sports and the promotion of the excellence of the best healthcare professionals are the two pillars on which its actions are based, as well as the development of digital tools that favour the dissemination of information regarding healthier lifestyle choices.
Inclusive sport
Inclusion for everyone by means of healthy competition.
The joint practice of sports between people with and without disabilities contributes to giving children with disabilities the same possibilities as others to access physical education and, therefore, to a high-quality and healthy life, while enjoying a shared experience and social inclusion.
Inclusive Sport in Schools (DIE)
This program is now in its 11th annual edition and has been held in Madrid, Ibiza and Extremadura. It was created by the Cátedra Fundación Sanitas de Estudios sobre Deporte Inclusivo (Fundación Sanitas Chair of Studies on Inclusive Sport, CEDI) with the aim of promoting the values of self-improvement, respect and empathy that inclusive sport promotes from an early age in schools. Since then, 337 schools and 46,072 students have already participated.
Senior-level Inclusive Competitions
In 2022, several senior-level inclusive championships were held, in which top-level athletes with and without disabilities competed in teams, including table tennis for the second year running, badminton and the triathlon. The participants were awarded prizes during the Inclusive Sports Night ceremony.
These competitions came about as a legacy of the 1st Inclusive Games, putting into practice the inclusive regulations that were created for the celebration of these games.
CESA Inclusive
Since 2018, at Fundación Sanitas we have been promoting inclusive sport at the Higher Council of Sports school championships by holding various competitions with the same characteristics as both conventional and adapted events.
In 2022, nine inclusive championships were held: track and field athletics, badminton, wheelchair basketball, cross country, judo, swimming, rugby, table tennis and triathlon.
A total of 574 participants took part in all competitions, including athletes with and without disabilities.
Real Madrid Foundation: inclusive and adapted soccer and basketball campus.
In 2022, we renewed our commitment at the 13th annual edition, and organised inclusive activities in which 60 employees and their families participated.
Sanitas MIR and EIR Awards
The value of the talent of health personnel.
The value of the talent and dedication of healthcare personnel has become even more apparent after the COVID-19 pandemic. At Fundación Sanitas we have been recognizing this for a long time, specifically since 1996, the year in which we began to grant the Sanitas MIR Award, which recognizes the Resident Internal Physician who stood out during his specialized training. In 2022, we have added the Sanitas EIR Award for the best Resident Internal Nurse.
Solidarity in Action
According to the latest data provided by UNHCR, by the end of 2021 the number of people displaced by war, violence, persecution and human rights violations will reach 89.3 million, almost 10% more than the previous year.
Africa has the highest rates of early death. In Cameroon, specifically, infant mortality currently stands at 4 deaths per 1,000 live births, and maternal mortality is 596 women per 100,000 births.
Fundación Sanitas and Fundación Alentia have signed a collaboration agreement to care for the emotional health and provide mental care to foster children and ex-foster children in the Community of Madrid.
